Running for Veterans’ Recovery: How MHP Run4Victory Cherkasy Marathon Will Support the Rehabilitation of Ukrainian Defenders

21 august 2026

Veteran and athlete Anton Hladun lost both legs and one arm in the war. Despite his injuries, he takes part in running events, practises archery and undergoes continuous rehabilitation as he prepares to use prostheses. Today, Anton is getting ready for the charity MHP Run4Victory Cherkasy Marathon to support fellow veterans who, like him, are recovering at the MSK Dnipro Rehabilitation Centre.

The charity MHP Run4Victory Cherkasy Marathon will take place on 19–20 September. For the third consecutive year, the event is organised by MHP in partnership with the MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation, with New Run serving as the sports organiser.

100% of registration fees and donations will be directed towards expanding the Physical and Sports Rehabilitation Centre at MSK Dnipro, where Ukrainian defenders undergo long-term recovery.

From recovery to a new chapter

At MSK Dnipro, Anton tried several sports before choosing archery, first with a recurve bow and later with a compound bow. He recently won third place in the team competition at the Ukrainian Championship.

“After my injury, sport became much more than competing for medals. It is about independence and moving forward. After the amputations, I withdrew and stayed at home, but the need for continuous rehabilitation eventually brought me to MSK Dnipro. Everything here is designed to support veterans after the war,” Anton says. “Now I am rarely at home. I train almost every day and take care of myself. I want to make the Ukrainian national team and compete at major tournaments.”

Through its MHP Poruch programme, MHP provided Anton with a bow and an electric mobility scooter to support his independence until he receives his prostheses.

Following the expansion of the MSK Dnipro Rehabilitation Centre, new jobs for veterans will also be created, including a position for Anton.

“Working here will give me an even stronger sense that I am needed. And by interacting with other veterans, I will be able to show through my own example that sport is nothing to be afraid of. Places like this genuinely help people return to life, both physically and psychologically,” says veteran and athlete Anton Hladun.

A run that becomes real support

The charity MHP Run4Victory Cherkasy Marathon will take place on 19–20 September. Participants can choose from 2, 5, 10, 21 and 42 km distances, an online format, a pet-friendly race, the inclusive Liudy Tytany distance, and children’s races of 100, 300 and 500 metres.

“This is how we drive change: by bringing together business, government, the media, communities and people across Ukraine. For us, this is about sustainable development, because together we can achieve more where support is needed most. Today, that means uniting around servicemen and women, veterans and their families,” said Volodymyr Zabela, Director of the MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation.

Anton’s journey once began with the struggle to regain basic independence. Today, he trains, competes and is preparing to work in a place where other veterans will receive support on their own road to recovery.

On 19–20 September, every participant in the MHP Run4Victory Cherkasy Marathon will have an opportunity to help more veterans move forward on that journey.
