Dnipro Expands Long-Term Housing Centre for IDPs with Support from the MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation

06 october 2026

Two new accessible floors have opened at a centre for internally displaced people in Dnipro, creating homes for a further 74 displaced people, including people with disabilities and older residents. The MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation contributed UAH 700,000 towards the finishing works and the restoration of the building’s lift. The total project budget exceeded UAH 21.5 million.

The Centre operates in Dormitory No. 6 of Dnipro University of Technology. It currently houses 39 IDPs, and once the expansion is complete, that number will rise to 113. On the new floors of the Long-Term Housing Centre, repair and finishing works were carried out, and the premises were fitted out and furnished. The lift was also restored so that older residents, people with disabilities and parents with young children can move around the building with ease.

In total, UAH 21,509,000 was invested in expanding the Centre. The MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation allocated UAH 700,000, which funded the restoration, finishing and maintenance of the lift, as well as painting and decorative plastering works.

“The war has deprived thousands of people of the opportunity to live safely in their own communities. Our Foundation supports projects that create the conditions for a decent and comfortable life in a new place, where people can work, study and adapt. That is why we joined the effort to expand the Long-Term Housing Centre for IDPs in Dnipro. This project shows how government, business, international and civil society organisations can work together to address one of the most pressing challenges of wartime,” said Volodymyr Zabela, Director of the MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation.

Helvetas funded demolition and floor screeding on the fourth floor to the value of UAH 560,000, while Ginger financed the replacement of windows worth UAH 249,000. Two further partners took part: the municipal enterprise DOTYK removed construction waste and carried out part of the demolition works, and Dnipro University of Technology provided the premises.

“Dnipropetrovsk Region has given refuge to more than 480,000 people forced to leave their homes because of the war. Our task is to support them and create decent living conditions. The Centre’s new floors are intended primarily for those who need particular care: older people and people with disabilities. Partnership between government, charitable organisations and business allows us to expand this kind of assistance and support those who are facing the greatest hardship today,” said Oleksandr Hanzha, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration.

During the opening, guests toured the new floors and the bomb shelter, which houses a multifunctional space. The Centre’s team and the Ukrainian Student League charitable organisation spoke about the facility’s work. Several officials and partners attended the event:

  • Mykola Lukashuk, Chair of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council
  • Eduard Pidlubnyi, Deputy Mayor of Dnipro
  • Oleksii Prima, Regional Coordinator of the Proliska Humanitarian Mission
  • Oleksandr Aziukovskyi, Rector of Dnipro University of Technology

The MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation provides systematic support to internally displaced people and the communities that host them, helping to create the conditions for a good quality of life and successful adaptation in their new homes.
