HOW WE, TOGETHER WITH “DOBROCAT”, HELP INTERNALLY DISPLACED CATS

17 may 2022

Russia’s invasion has left a terrible mark on the residents of Kharkiv, Mariupol, Kyiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Severodonetsk and many other settlements across Ukraine. MHP are working with counterparts across Europe to provide support and assistance for those who have been displaced and traumatised by the conflict. This includes family pets that have also been evacuated from conflict hot spots and we recently donated 300 kg of animal feed to the “DobroCat” Charitable Foundation. With our support “DobroСat” was able to feed dozens of cats and their owners who came from the war-torn area. Among them is Tisha from Kharkiv who was evacuated from the city following russia’s bombardment.

Whilst the journey from Kharkiv to Cherkasy was fraught with danger Tisha’s 70-year-old owner did not have the heart to leave him behind in the war-torn city. The emotional bond between the two is deep – with Tisha finding the family 5 years ago and providing solace when her owner lost his son. Due to travel restrictions at the time there was no chance to take Tisha abroad with her owner and “DobroCat” was thankfully able to find a temporary home for her.
The director of the organization Yana Tyabut says that whilst Tisha is a beautiful and attractive cat, and it will be easy to find a new owner for her they are hopeful that she can be reunited with her family when she receives the relevant documents and gets all the necessary vaccinations.

Please do consider donating to MHP to support our vital work providing support and hope to war torn Ukraine.
