Amid the war, the workload on regional hospitals has increased severalfold, making the modernization of medical infrastructure a key factor in how quickly and effectively people can receive care locally. Addressing these challenges is the goal of the nationwide social initiatives competition “Time to Act, Ukraine!”, which for the tenth year in a row is being implemented by the MHP–Hromadi Charitable Foundation with the support of MHP.
In 2025, the competition supported 105 social projects across different regions of Ukraine, with total funding of nearly UAH 39 million. Grants were allocated to healthcare development, education, veteran support, infrastructure upgrades, strengthening energy security, and preserving cultural heritage. The projects were selected from more than 760 applications submitted by communities from all over the country.

One of the winning projects was the modernization of the operating room at the Kaniv Multidisciplinary Hospital. With grant support and co-financing from the hospital, modern surgical equipment was purchased, including a motorized operating table with a set of specialized accessories and a ceiling-mounted surgical light. The total cost of the project exceeded UAH 950,000, of which UAH 465,000 was provided through the grant, and UAH 488,000 was contributed by the hospital.
Each year, about 3,000 patients receive treatment in the hospital’s surgical department, many of whom require surgery. The new equipment will be used for emergency surgical care as well as to create safer and more comfortable working conditions for medical teams.
“This upgrade gives the hospital additional capacity in the work of the surgical department. The new equipment is used for both scheduled and emergency procedures and meets modern safety and workflow standards. For us, it is important that this solution allows the hospital to operate steadily and provide patients with the care they need”.
The project in Kaniv became possible through a partnership between the community, the hospital, and the “Time to Act, Ukraine!” competition, which supports community development across the country.

In 2025, the total budget of the winning projects amounted to nearly UAH 39 million: UAH 15 million in grant funding was provided by the Foundation, while another UAH 23.9 million was contributed by communities, businesses, and partners. This cooperation model enables communities to implement solutions with long-term impact.
“Healthcare remains one of the key needs of communities across Ukraine—especially during the war, when the burden on regional hospitals has increased significantly. It is important for us to support solutions that strengthen the capacity of local healthcare facilities. That is why, within the ‘Time to Act, Ukraine!’ competition, we invest in projects that enable hospitals to operate more effectively and help people receive quality medical care in their own communities.”
The case of Kaniv Multidisciplinary Hospital illustrates how nationwide community support programs can directly improve access to healthcare at the local level.
