Okhmatdyt healthcare professionals examined children in Borodianka: 170 young patients visited them
Before the full-scale invasion, there were 21 family doctors and pediatricians in Borodianka Central District Hospital. After the war started, some healthcare professionals fled, and one doctor and her family died when Borodianka was bombed. Currently, there are 13 healthcare professionals employed in the hospital. They need at least two more healthcare professionals to complete the staffing table. The community is ready to provide housing for the professionals who agree to come to Borodianka to live and work here.
So far, such employees were not found and the community faced a personnel shortage, thus, on October 4, the Okhmatdyt Hospital with the support of the MHP-Gromadi and Children of Heroes Charitable Foundations and in partnership with the Ovocheva Skarbnytsya MHP LLC, organized an off-site reception in Borodianka. Then, they examined about 170 children who were under medical surveillance or who had lost one of their parents due to the war in Ukraine, 37 of them were under the care of the Children of Heroes Charitable Foundation
One of the visitors was Tetiana Bukina. When Borodianka was bombed, she lost her son and daughter-in-law, and is now raising her grandchildren. Nowadays, Tetiana Bukina lives in a modular house in her native Borodianka and is grateful for the prompt examination of her granddaughter by Okhmatdyt professionals. She said that as they received appointments they could start treatment.
All children could be examined by such professionals as a gastroenterologist, an allergist, a surgeon, a neurologist, an orthopedist, a hematologist, an infectious disease specialist, an ophthalmologist, as well as a psychologist, and others that day. All visitors to the mobile Okhmatdyt had a blood test by 24 parameters done on expensive equipment purchased by the MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundation. This speeds up the diagnosis procedure and makes it more accurate.
In general, since the beginning of 2023, Okhmatdyt professionals supported by MHP-Gromadi visited more than 10 settlements in Ukraine and examined almost 5,500 children. Within the Healthcare Moneybox project, Okhmatdyt healthcare professionals came to Borodianka for the first time but it was their third off-site work in total. Similar to other settlements visited earlier with off-site examinations, they recorded endocrine disorders, allergic pathologies, and gynecological diseases. According to Olha Medvedieva, Head of Pediatrics of Okhmatdyt National Specialized Children’s Hospital for the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the said is the result of chronic stress, post-traumatic syndrome, and a diet violation, which adversely affect the children’s health.
Roman Maister, Director of Ovocheva Skarbnytsya MHP LLC, noted that the children of Borodianka need the help of highly specialized doctors, in particular, psychologists.
Ovocheva Skarbnytsya MHP LLC is a new enterprise in the MHP family, which introduces the social responsibility experience of its parent company. Therefore, it cares about personnel and ensures access to timely and necessary medical examinations by leading Okhmatdyt healthcare professionals not only to its employees’ children but also to other children from the community. We will introduce the MHP best practices and projects to develop communities in Borodianka
As during and after the occupation, most local businesses left Borodianka, the establishment of new enterprises is a great support and improvement for the community.
For Borodianka, it is crucial that the business recovers and workplaces are created, and taxes are paid, thereby supporting opportunities for development and introducing additional social initiatives not financed from the community budget.
Volodymyr Zabela, Head of the Regional Development Group, MHP, supports the idea that such communities as Borodianka currently require stable support and a lasting partnership with businesses to help the community develop and implement social initiatives.
Nowadays, communities that were occupied during a full-scale invasion, face a lot of challenges. One of them is related to our children’s health. Thus, partnerships between businesses, local authorities, and the community allowed us to organize the visit of healthcare professionals who held professional consultations for children. This is crucial as children’s health is the strength of our nation in the future. It is also crucial for the UN sustainable development goals supported by MHP and MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundation to be integrated into communities.
Such projects always get the most response from the community residents as when a whole team of healthcare professionals leave their offices and come to children in a village or a small town, it is always about care and concern.
We engage Okhmatdyt healthcare professionals to support communities where families and children have difficulties with medical care. Currently, it is Borodianka, a town that has undergone severe trials following a full-scale invasion. A lot of residents were forced to flee for their lives but those who stayed or returned made the basis of the Borodianka community’s future. Therefore, we support these people – those who stayed and did not break down so that to continue to recover and develop Borodianka, to make it a town worth living and creating in
According to Yuliia Petruchenko, Deputy Head of the Department for Families Affected by Military Aggression at the Children of Heroes Charity Fund, the examination not only provides knowledge about the health status but also shapes children’s responsibility for their well-being and contributes to the creation of a healthy lifestyle culture, which is crucial nowadays.
