Summer season of the National Tour “Cinema for Victory!”: the mobile cinema will once again present Ukrainian movies to military units, small towns and villages

02 june 2023,

The third stage of the National Tour “Cinema for Victory!” was launched on June 1, 2023. Within the framework of the tour, Ukrainian movies will be shown to defenders of Ukraine in military units and to tens of thousands of viewers in settlements without cinemas

From June to October, a special mobile cinema truck will be on a tour through small towns and villages, screening Ukrainian movies.

The project ambassadors will also join the tours: Ada Rohovtseva, Akhtem Seitablaiev, Irma Vitovska, Bohdan Beniuk, Oleksii Trytenko, and many other well-known artists. They will present the movies and talk to the audience.

“Last year, the main goals of the movie tour were to unite and form a national identity. This year, we want to provide motivation and support as well. Because enduring a full-scale war is like running a marathon. Culture, meetings, and conversations with sincere people become the main source of strength for this. While working in communities, we see how emotionally difficult it is for people, so our mission is to support and give hope through films,” says Tetiana Volochai, director of the MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundation, which is supporting this project for the second year in a row.

The project “Cinema for Victory!” was launched on August 6, 2022. The project is held in several formats: open-air screenings are held in towns and villages during the warm season; technical team visits to provide technical support for screenings; remote screenings in cooperation with local activists and at the request of military units, medical institutions, boarding schools, etc. In the framework of the film tour, the organizers arrange numerous meetings with filmmakers. Pre-premiere screenings of Ukrainian films with the participation of directors, actors, and film crew are organized exclusively for the military.

“Thanks to the combination of different formats, since the beginning of the Tour, we have managed to hold 1,262 screenings of 47 Ukrainian feature films in 288 settlements and military units in 21 regions of Ukraine. This is not easy during martial law and under the threat of missile attacks. But we can see how important our Tour is for the audience, and this inspires us to continue and spread the ‘Cinema for Victory!’ Tour,” says Andrii Rizol, the ideologist of the initiative, the Tour’s producer and Chairman of the Association “Watch Ukrainian!”

This year, the project was recognized at the national and international levels. In January, “Cinema for Victory!” won the “Responsible Country” social initiative, ranking in the “Supporting Education and Culture” category. In March, the project received one of the world’s most prestigious Communications Awards, the SABRE Awards. This award recognizes projects that demonstrate the highest level of strategic planning and creativity.

The National Tour “Cinema for Victory!” is held at the initiative of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Ukrainian State Film Agency, the Association “Watch Ukrainian!” which is sponsored by MHP-Gromadi Foundation and the Deloitte company in Ukraine, with the assistance of the Vavilon company, UkrKinoFest, NGO Union of TV and Film Industry Entrepreneurs, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine in cooperation with regional civil and military administrations and the National Police of Ukraine.
