Two Inclusive Sports Facilities for Veterans’ Rehabilitation Launched in Lviv Region

09 february 2026

Two projects — winners of the nationwide grant competition “Time to Act, Unstoppable” — were presented in Lviv Region. The competition is aimed at developing adaptive sports infrastructure for veterans, military personnel, and people with disabilities. Inclusive spaces have opened in Sokilnyky and Horodok. These locations create conditions for regular training, physical recovery, and community-building in local communities.

Grant support for the projects was provided by the State Institution “Agency of Mass Sport of Ukraine” with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine within the President of Ukraine’s “Active Parks” programme, the Fedor Shpyg Foundation, and the MHP–Hromadi Charitable Foundation within the support programme for military personnel, veterans, and their families.

“Adaptive sport creates an environment where veterans can work on their recovery in a systematic way and return to active life.”

Both projects were among the twenty winners of the nationwide grant competition “Time to Act, Unstoppable!” last year, which focuses on developing sports infrastructure for veterans, military personnel, and people with disabilities. The implementation of these initiatives combines physical recovery, psychological support, and community-building through sport.

“Inclusive sports spaces in communities provide veterans with access to regular training, professional support, and a sense of community. These formats create the conditions for recovery and social interaction.”

Sokilnyky, Lviv Region (BE STRONG NGO)
The BE STRONG non-governmental organisation implemented a project to comprehensively equip an inclusive sports space for veterans’ rehabilitation. As part of the initiative, the gym was upgraded with sports equipment, and a basic archery set was purchased for a total of UAH 400,000. The space operates for veterans, including those with disabilities, and is used both for regular training sessions and for hosting national competitions among war veterans — BESTRONG GAMES.

According to Yevhen Lukashchuk, founder of BE STRONG NGO, the team’s work in Sokilnyky is focused on creating exactly these conditions.

“We are developing this space as a place for regular training and community for veterans. The new archery equipment allows us to expand training programmes and involve participants in competitions, which supports motivation and consistency in training.”

Horodok, Lviv Region (Sport for All Centre)
In Horodok, the inclusive sports space was upgraded as part of the project “Together — Stronger!”. Grant funding was used to purchase functional training equipment and sports gear, and a professional coach was engaged. The amount of grant support totalled approximately UAH 400,000, with an additional UAH 350,000 allocated by the local community. The space operates for veterans, people with disabilities, and community residents who require physical recovery after injuries.

Yevhenii, a serviceman who attended the open training session together with his fellow soldiers, shared his impressions:

“The gym is very well equipped, with a wide range of training machines. It is important for service members to maintain their physical condition on a regular basis. In addition to scheduled physical training, we can also come here in our free time and train properly.”

During the presentations in Sokilnyky and Horodok, open training sessions for veterans were held, where participants were shown how to use the equipment purchased with grant funding.
