Chytomo’s In-Depth Look at Ukraine’s Only Museum Dedicated to Stus

02 august 2024,

The poet Vasyl Stus is often linked with the Donetsk region, where he studied at the university, worked as an editor for the newspaper “Socialist Donbas,” and later taught Ukrainian language and literature at a local school. However, few people remember that he was actually born in Rakhnivka, a village in the Vinnytsia region. He used to come here to visit his grandmother in the summer, and he survived the Holodomor here. In this village, you’ll find a restored house where Vasyl Stus was born, a well dug by his father, and a museum dedicated to him, created by the local community.

Chytomo media reports on how Ukraine’s only Stus museum operates and highlights a special issue of “Local History,” published thanks to benefactors, that is entirely dedicated to the poet.
