How MHP Run4Victory Will Help a Veteran Rebuild His Life

19 april 2026

Before the full-scale invasion, Denys Semenovskyi lived in Kyiv, worked as an electrician, and led an active life. He delivered projects across Ukraine — from apartments and offices to large-scale facilities. He had a family, grown-up children, and spent his free time hiking in the mountains.

In 2022, Denys joined the Territorial Defense Forces and later enlisted in the National Guard of Ukraine. Alongside his service, he volunteered — helping internally displaced people and supporting elderly residents in his community.

In 2025, he made the decision to rotate into the infantry, replacing soldiers who had been holding positions for over a month.

During a combat mission in low visibility, Denys stepped on a landmine. He applied tourniquets himself, but evacuation took more than 44 hours. His chances of survival were minimal.

What followed were multiple surgeries and a long recovery. Within three months, Denys was already moving independently, training, and gradually regaining control over his body. The next stage is prosthetics.

Denys will undergo prosthetic treatment at the Protez Foundation center, where he is already working with physical therapists to prepare his body for the process — ensuring it is both effective and safe.

“Almost no one in Ukraine or globally works with cases involving high-level bilateral amputations,” says Yevhen Oplimakh, Senior Prosthetist-Orthotist at Protez Foundation.

Today, Denys’s main goal is to regain mobility — to move independently, drive again, and return to service in a different role.

“With a prosthesis, you walk up to a car, get in, and drive. That’s independence,” Denys says.

He trains every day, preparing for prosthetics that will cost approximately UAH 1.7 million.

“Every donation and every participant makes a real difference. It gives me and my fellow soldiers a chance to return to life,” he adds.

This is exactly why, on May 16–17, Kyiv will host the charity MHP Run4Victory marathon. For the first time since the full-scale invasion began, the city center will reopen for a large-scale running event — united by a shared mission.

“The MHP Run4Victory Kyiv Marathon is a way to bring people together around an important cause — the recovery of our veterans. Raising awareness about prosthetics helps us support more defenders who have lost limbs in the war,” said Pavlo Moroz, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at MHP.
“100% of registration fees and donations will be directed to the Protez Foundation to fund prosthetic treatment for veterans.”

The marathon supports those who need recovery the most. Denys is one of them — and every registration becomes a step toward his return to a full life.
