Annual Sowing Seeds charity campaign launches, providing 162 thousand seed packs for families

The annual Sowing Seeds charity campaign has started, providing 162,000 families with quality seed packs. The campaign has been organised by the MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundation for the fourth year in a row. This year’s sets include carrots, parsley, beetroot, zucchini, cucumbers, radishes, and marigolds The total weight of the planting material is 3.3 tonnes. This is 143 kg more than in 2023.

“The full-scale war continues, and the objective of this campaign is to support Ukraine’s food security. We provide people living in rural areas with high-quality planting material for basic vegetable crops and help them reap a good harvest. We give people the opportunity to be independent and save their family budget by growing basic products from the borsch set. For example, last year, the seeds distributed by our Foundation as part of the initiative covered more than 310 hectares spreading from the Volyn to the Dnipro Oblasts. Over 11 tonnes of vegetables were harvested from this area,” says Tetiana Volochai, Director of the MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundation.

The number of seed packs and geographic coverage of the initiative has been growing every year. An additional 6,990 households will receive the packages this year, bringing the total number of households to 162,000. Seeds will be distributed in the following 13 Oblasts: Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Ternopil, Volyn, Sumy, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, and Poltava.

Last year, as part of its support for the project and to raise awareness about vegetable cultivation in private gardens among Ukrainians, the MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundation released an online series of tips titled Gardening Hacks. Yuliia Spasibova, the project’s host and author of a blog about gardens, vegetable gardens and flowers, shared her decades of wisdom on how to make the most of a tiny seed packet. The project team suggests checking out the online series ‘Gardening Hacks’ in 2024. After all, Ukrainians’ demand for such content and for growing their own vegetables has never stopped rising.

Sowing Seeds with MHP is an annual charitable campaign organised by the MHP-Gromadi Charitable Foundations to promote Ukraine’s food security.  As part of this campaign, the Foundation annually distributes thousands of vegetable seed packs among residents of local communities to help them prepare for a spring sowing campaign.
